Computer science and BTEC IT students at Solihull Sixth Form College attended an online workshop from IBM this month, entitled "How IT is changing the world and the world is changing IT".

IBM, also known as the International Business Machines Corporation and nicknamed Big Blue, is an American multi-national tech corporation, with headquarters in New York and offices in over 175 countries, including the UK.

The workshop explored the work that IBM do and how integral IT is in all facets of society.

Students learned about careers in the IT sector, including related to Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence, both areas of interest to many of our learners and careers that are in high demand.

Mehvish Mirza is one of the Year 12 BTEC IT students who attended the workshop. She commented: “The talk provided by IBM was very helpful to a college student like myself, as I was provided with an insight on how to pursue a career with IBM in tech/IT and their information on how to apply for a degree apprenticeship was also useful, so when I apply, I have an insight to how to be a part of the company."

Learners on the A level Computer Science and BTEC IT courses typically progress onto a range of destinations after finishing their sixth form studies. While many choose to undertake an undergraduate degree, sponsored degree programmes and higher apprenticeships are also popular choices.
