College restaurant recognised with highly commended AA College Rosette
Staff and students at Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) are celebrating after the College’s Mulberry Restaurant and Bistro was awarded the AA College Rosette Highly Commended by AA Hotel and Hospitality Services.
The AA College Rosette recognises training restaurants that deliver outstanding food quality and excellent customer service, reflecting real-world industry standards.
It is modelled on the well-known AA Rosette awards for professional restaurants.
This marks the second consecutive time the Mulberry Restaurant has earned the honour, adding to its previous Gold Accreditation for the Hospitality and Catering programme.
To reach the Highly Commended status, the College’s Mulberry Restaurant demonstrated exceptional dedication to both its students and the hospitality sector, achieving standards that set it apart within the region.
During the judging process, experienced AA hotel and restaurant inspectors praised the College for its strong industry links, student-focused approach, and high-quality facilities.
Located in Burton Town Centre, the Mulberry Bistro and Restaurant has become a much-loved local venue, offering a modern dining experience.
The fine dining restaurant presents a carefully crafted menu of dishes and wines at accessible prices, all prepared and served by students under the guidance of expert tutors.
The adjoining bistro complements this with light lunches, homemade cakes and freshly brewed barista coffee in a bright, welcoming space.
Mitchell Ogden, bistro supervisor at Burton and South Derbyshire College, said: “We’re truly honoured to receive these accolades, which would not have been possible without the commitment and passion of our dedicated staff and students.
“Our training mirrors the intensity and standards of the restaurant industry, equipping students with the skills to thrive in their future hospitality careers.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see their commitment and hard work pay off.”
