Media and IT learners at Solihull Sixth Form College took part in an exciting and informative online webinar with Hollywood Visual Effects giant, Industrial Light & Magic.

The company, founded in 1975 by George Lucas, and known for their work on blockbusters like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Spider-Man and the Jurassic Park films, delivered a revealing presentation, explaining how their industry operates and how young people might pursue a career in Visual Effects (VFX).

There was also a chance for students to participate in a Q&A session, in which they were able to ask questions and learn more about qualified routes into the industry.

Izaac, a year 12 learner taking BTEC Creative Media diploma, said: “The process and layering on their animations, which I didn't know about, was interesting to see. Taking part allowed me to now have an idea of the process that goes into making big blockbuster films and this can potentially help me as I consider career options in the film-making industry in the future. ”

Meanwhile Hannah, also taking the Creative Media course, said: “It completely exceeded my expectations. It was such an incredible glimpse into the creative world, and I got to see things I 've never seen before.

“Getting to see the breakdown of how fictional objects come to life was mind-blowing. It was so informative, extremely exciting and an honour to watch. ”

Prospective learners, who are considering their post-16 options, can find out more about the BTEC Creative Digital Media Production course, by booking a place at a College Open Events this term.
