YMCA Burton held its first fundraising event of the year - Apne Charity Fundraising Night - bringing together supporters, partners and members of the local community for an evening dedicated to raising vital funds and awareness for the charity’s work.

The event saw local businesses, including chamber members and supporters from the community come together to enjoy a four-course meal which was hosted, cooked and served by Apne owner Mr Hussain and his team.

Paula Senior, fundraising and partnerships manager, opened the evening and welcomed guests, thanking them for their support.

She gave insight into why holding events like this are important to the charity and where the funds raised will make a real difference to the lives of many.

A total of £5,159 was raised, which will enable the charity to continue delivering vital support services to individuals and families throughout the local community.

Paul Laffey, CEO of YMCA Burton, addressed the room and provided powerful impact statistics and insight into challenges within the sector.

He also shared gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the charity for the generous support before announcing celebrity auctioneer Richard Winterton, whose expert skills in auctioning a list of kindly donated items helped achieve the amount raised, along with a raffle on the night.

Thanks were extended to Mr Hussain and his team, long-standing supporters of YMCA Burton.

Paul Laffey said: “On behalf of our president, Ben Robinson, Trustees, Patricia, David and Daryl, who attended our 12th Apne fundraising event, I would like to thank Mr Hussain and his team, our guests and all who supported us in making the evening such a tremendous success.”

Paula Senior is a divisional council member of Burton & District Chamber of Commerce and was joined by fellow members including Blu Hardy from Hardy Signs, Russell Jeans from Sefton Consultants, Imran Ahmed from IT Helpdesk, Tim Mahoney from EEvolution Ltd and Amrit Virk from Burton & South Derbyshire College.

Paula Senior added: “Our Apne event is always a super evening and it is very humbling to have the support of so many local friends, supporters and business leaders.”

Tim Mahoney, founder and CTO of EEvolution Ltd, said: “I support YMCA Burton simply because of the needs of local people in Burton for housing, food and support, and I think it’s a social responsibility for companies in the area to support local charities, especially YMCA Burton and the work they do, as the demand for their services is needed now more than ever.”
