Community heroes to be honoured with British Empire Medal
Eleven recipients from across the West Midlands will receive their British Empire Medal (BEM) from the Lord-Lieutenant for West Midlands, Derrick Anderson, at an event on Thursday, 25 September.
The West Midlands is celebrating BEM recipients from this year’s King’s Birthday Honours and New Year Honours.
This year there are four recipients from Sandwell (Oldbury, Rowley Regis, Smethwick), three from Coventry, two from Walsall and two from Birmingham.
All have made an active contribution to help others make the region a richer, kinder place.
They will receive their honours at 2pm at Birmingham Council House.
The Lord-Lieutenant for West Midlands, Derrick Anderson CBE (pictured), said: “The Investiture is a wonderful opportunity to recognise some exceptional people who have dedicated their lives to improving the lives of other people in this region.
“It is heart-warming to know that we are fortunate to have people that give so much and make a big difference to the communities where they live.
“I really look forward to meeting them and celebrating their achievements.”

- Ms Safeena Karen Mohammed- For Services to the Community in Coventry
- Mr Mohamed Kasim Sharifi- For Services to the Community in Coventry
- Mr David John Payne- For Services to the Community in Aldridge
- Mrs Joan Lockley- For Services to Wildlife
