Community interest company receives Government grant
Local community interest company 5Up and sister company 9Up have been awarded nearly £200k to deliver the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme.
HAF is a national Department for Education funded programme aimed at enabling children and young people to attend activities and various experiences in the Easter, Summer and Christmas school holidays.
Birmingham City Council was awarded a grant of £8,029,880 by central Government Department for Education to run the HAF programme for a total of three years continuing until 2025.
StreetGames have been working with Birmingham City Council and community partners like 5Up and 9Up to successfully deliver activities that combat holiday hunger, inactivity and social isolation.
StreetGames also provided 5Up and 9Up staff free access to training course including first aid, engaging inactive young people, mental health awareness, safeguarding children, and many other free courses.
5Up and 9Up mission is to offer social benefits and engaging activities to eligible individuals throughout Birmingham.
They provide a variety of programmmes through a number of fully equipped venues throughout Birmingham which includes Thai boxing, boxing, mixed martial arts, indoor football, squash, hockey, and gym-based sessions. The sessions will run throughout school holidays and there are allocated spaces for up to 400 young individuals per day.
They were also given free tickets and travel costs for the “British Open Squash 2023 ” held at the Birmingham Rep by Asma Ajaz-Ali who is the community engagement manager for England Squad.
