Community Trust to deliver ‘once in a lifetime’ trip to Africa
Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT) is once again partnering with African Adventures to deliver a once in a lifetime trip to Africa.
This year BACT are running two trips for the first time. In March 2024 the trust plans take 18 members of the community to Woe, Volta Region, Ghana and in October 2024, in partnership with the Deferrers Trust, BACT are taking a group of students to Kenya.
The aim of the trips is to make a difference by volunteering at one of the partner schools where they will help teach in lessons, coach sports, or build projects.
The trust said in a statement: “We are able to make a huge difference to the communities we work in in Africa but also raise funds towards projects that directly support the work we do supporting our communities in East Staffordshire.
“This Ghana trip will consist of volunteers made up of Burton Albion Fans, Burton Albion Community Trust supporters and participants and is open to anyone with an interest in taking a step out of their comfort zone to experience a completely different culture and impact on the lives on many people.”
The trust will take a 10-night trip from the 23 March to the 2 April to Ghana to volunteer their services. The volunteers fundraise to be able to travel and collect donations to take out to the community in Ghana.
This week, one of the participants, Gordan Tate from BACT’s walking football programme, kindly donated a variety of football shirts to Suzi Alliss, who is travelling out to Ghana for the 3rd time this year.
Gordan Tate, BACT Walking Football participant said: “My son used to go on fundraising trips to Kenya and I always used to buy the shirts from charity shops for him to take.
“Even after he stopped going to Kenya, I still continued to buy them. I bumped into Suzanne, and she mentioned that she was going on the trip to Ghana and immediately I asked if she wanted them.
“I know the children over there love them and it’s just a small thing we can do to try and help out.”
