Midlands based green construction and landscaping firm GeoGrow had designed and installed a Rootlok wall at the Chelsea Flower Show held last week.

The Rootlok wall was designed, installed and planted by GeoGrow as a retaining structure at the Fauna & Flora International Charity Garden.

The garden - designed by Jilayne Rickards - aims to replicate the Gorilla conservation project in Africa, demonstrating how both humans and gorillas can co-inhabit in an environment where they both can successfully strive.

The garden had also been built to celebrate the charity's 120th anniversary and the success of its gorilla conservation work, which started in 1978. It also aimed to highlight the importance of "wild" patches in British gardens.

The garden's gorilla nest set was designed by Cambridge primatologist Angelique Todd, who spent 20 years in Africa studying Silverback gorillas.

She said: “The Chelsea Flower Show was a wonderful opportunity for Fauna and Flora to showcase their work saving nature. The charity's conservation work was not just about gorillas, it's about all sort of animals, insects, elephants, amphibians, reptiles. It's global".

Garden designer Jilayne Rickards said: “There is a parallel between the habitat of a gorilla and people's UK gardens, amazing foliage and plants, thistles, brambles, nettles and grasses that supports massive gorilla 's and Great Britain 's wildlife ' '.

Dame Judy Dench - vice president at Fauna & Flora commented: ' 'This has been beautifully put together, I can 't believe it is done in such a short time. ”

The garden 's large elevation represented the African montane region and at its highest point was a tremendous waterfall, large rocks and stones were placed on top of the geogrid earth reinforced system which provided a stabilised platform.

Despite the elevation and topography, not one jot of concrete or cement had been used, the entire garden had been carefully designed with a low carbon footprint and sustainability. The garden will be dismantled, donated and rebuilt at the Eden Project.
