Council announces free carbon literacy training for food businesses
Food businesses across East Staffordshire and Newcastle-under-Lyme can now gain a nationally recognised Carbon Literacy certificate through free training designed specifically for the food sector.
East Staffordshire Borough Council and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council have partnered to deliver fully funded Carbon Literacy Training to local food and hospitality businesses.
The training has been funded by The Carbon Literacy Project and demonstrates an innovative, collaborative approach to supporting businesses in the transition to net zero.
This free, one-day course will help food businesses understand climate change, reduce their environmental impact, and gain practical tools to take action. The training is designed to be relevant and immediately useful.
Participants will receive a Carbon Literacy certificate upon completion - a nationally recognised credential demonstrating knowledge and commitment to climate action. The training also covers:
- Understanding climate change and its impacts on the food sector
- Calculating your business's carbon footprint
- Identifying practical strategies to reduce emissions
- Discovering cost-saving opportunities through sustainability
- Communicating your environmental actions effectively to customers and supply chains
The training will be delivered by Tom Guilbert-Newell, sustainable environment officer from Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and accredited Carbon Literacy Trainer, who brings extensive experience in helping organisations understand and reduce their environmental impact.
East Staffordshire’s free Carbon Literacy training session will take place on Monday 10 November at Mulberry Bistro, Burton upon Trent, DE14 3RL.
The session will run from 9:30am to 4:30pm and is open to 18 participants.
In Newcastle-under-Lyme, the training will take place on Monday 27 October at Keele in Town, ST5 1PE, also from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
Like the East Staffordshire session, it is free of charge and limited to 18 places.
