Council celebrates Great Big Green Week with packed programme of events
East Staffordshire Borough Council is joining communities across the UK in celebrating Great Big Green Week 2026 – taking place this week - with a packed programme of events and activities, alongside the launch of a brand-new digital trails app for residents and visitors.
Great Big Green Week invites communities to take action for nature, climate and their local neighbourhoods.
This year, East Staffordshire's programme, in partnership with local charity Circularity.org, spans Burton upon Trent and Uttoxeter, with something for all ages including:
- Thursday 11 June - The People's Emergency Briefing is screened at the Brewhouse Arts Centre. The powerful film brings together leading UK scientists and experts on climate and nature, featuring Chris Packham and Deborah Meaden.
- Thursday 11 June – Guests can get creative at the Dried Flower Artwork Workshop at the Circularity Pop Up in the Octagon Centre with a hands-on session.
- Saturday 13 June - A Day for the little ones, as a Baby & Children's Market and Children's Day both land at Burton Market Hall and Place, including family-friendly fun and bike stunts.
- Sunday 14 June - Close the week at the Winshill Allotment Open Day, a chance to explore one of Burton's best-loved green spaces and meet the people who tend it.
People are also encouraged to explore at your own pace with the Branston Pickle Pot Trail, a year-round walking trail designed by local artists.
Marking Green Week further, the Council is also launching their brand-new Discover East Staffordshire Trails App, giving residents and visitors a digital guide to the borough's growing network of trails.
The app gives users access to a range of trails across the borough, from riverside walks and woodland routes to heritage pathways through Burton upon Trent and beyond.
Highlights include the route through the hauntingly beautiful ruins of Croxden Abbey near Rocester, the National Forest Noon Columns, and the newly regenerated town centre trails in Burton upon Trent.
Councillor Paul Walker, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Cultural Development, said: "East Staffordshire is a borough full of green spaces, hidden paths, fascinating heritage and incredible countryside, and Great Big Green Week is the perfect moment to remind people that it is all right on their doorstep.
“The new app makes it easier than ever to get outside, explore at your own pace, and connect with everything our borough has to offer. Whether you are a seasoned walker or just looking for somewhere new to take the family, there is genuinely something for everyone."
The app is free to download and available on iOS and Android.
