East Staffordshire Borough Council launched their third wave of operation clampdown in a bid to tackle a range of local environmental and parking-related issues that negatively affect residents.

Officers from East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Enforcement Team and Environmental Crime Team joined forces with the DVLA and Staffordshire County Council’s Parking Enforcement in the Shobnall and Eton Ward.

They dealt with multiple parking issues, abandoned vehicles, untaxed cars and commercial parking - all of which are having a detrimental impact on local residents.

As a result of the proactive, collaborative partnership working, the following action was taken:

  • 139 vehicles without road tax identified by ANPR (fines to be issued and sent via post) in the Anglesey, Stapenhill, Shobnall, Horninglow and Winshill areas of Burton with Uxbridge Street and Canal Street having the highest concentration, boasting 9 untaxed vehicles each.
  • Eight vehicles seized and removed by the DVLA for failing to have road tax for over two months.
  • Three vehicles clamped.
  • 28 Penalty Charge Notices issued for parking breaches within Shobnall.
  • Three abandoned vehicles identified and Notices issued for removal.
  • Fly tipping identified in several parts of Shobnall and currently under investigation.

Councillor Simon Slater, Cabinet Member for Communities and Regulatory Services, said: “Operation Clampdown continues to show what we can achieve when we work together to address the issues that residents care about most.

“We’ve successfully removed vehicles which are causing a public nuisance to residents in Shobnall and identified fly tipping which Council Officers will begin to investigate.

“It is encouraging to see council teams and partner agencies taking this joined-up approach, and I’d like to thank residents for sharing the information that helped shape and support this operation.”

Should any resident become aware of any vehicles being parked on the street without tax, the council urges to report to the DVLA who are able to investigate.

Reports can be made to the DVLA online through the website.

If any vehicle is believed to be abandoned, report to the Community and Civil Enforcement Team at East Staffordshire Borough Council by telephoning 01283 508506 or through the website.

If vehicles are being parked on the street and are being worked on/ repaired, being advertised for sale or left for long periods and associated with any businesses, contact the Enforcement Team at East Staffordshire Borough Council by telephoning 01283 508506 or emailing: Enforcement@eaststaffsbc.gov.uk

The council urges people to provide as much information as possible to demonstrate the vehicle is associated with a business, including dates, times, details of the vehicle, details of any person working on the vehicle, including a description and any evidence to demonstrate that they are employed by a specific garage.

Should any vehicle be parked on the street with no MOT, report to Staffordshire Police by telephoning 101 or reporting via the Staffordshire Police website.
