Council pledges support to voluntary organisation

Cannock County Council's leader has pledged to support a local voluntary organisation, following a grant approved by council 's cabinet.

Cannock Chase Council leader Councillor George Adamson and Garry Jones the chief executive at Support Staffordshire have signed the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector Pledge for Local Authorities.

The pledge is a commitment to work with the sectors.

In November, the council 's cabinet approved to give Support Staffordshire, which aims to enrich the lives of local people and communities, a grant for £8,350 for a 12-month period to deliver an additional five hours per week to support the voluntary sector within the district.

This follows Support Staffordshire 's work within the community during the first wave on the coronavirus pandemic.

Support Staffordshire has been working with Rugeley Community Church to enable them to support the residents of Rugeley.

Councillor Adamson: “We are delighted to give this grant to Support Staffordshire. They have been an invaluable organisation in our District during these unprecedented times.

"Due to the current restrictions myself and Garry have signed the pledge virtually. ”

Mr Jones said: “It has been great to work in closer collaboration with Cannock Chase District Council during the pandemic, ensuring we are all supporting one another for the benefit of residents. This 12 month grant will help us to consolidate that partnership and support even more of the vital community groups in the district. ”

Support Staffordshire is the largest independent support agency for Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Organisations. They have been working with the voluntary sector in Cannock Chase for over 30 years and have helped hundreds of community groups and volunteers to make a positive difference to their communities.
