Council seeks contractors for Burton Market Hall roof works
East Staffordshire Borough Council have confirmed that they are seeking bids from interested contractors to undertake the necessary roof works at the town’s iconic Market Hall.
Currently, bat investigation surveys are being undertaken by specialist ecologists, through May and June, in order for appropriate provision to be made during the actual works stage. The intention is that works will start on the roof from mid-September and are estimated to take approximately five to six months to complete.
As part of this upgrade, the current polycarbonate roof areas will be replaced with glazing, returning the roof sections to their original state improving the heritage and environmental aspects of the building.
Cllr Paul Walker, cabinet member for Tourism and Culture has confirmed: “These roof works will be the initial phase of longer term plans to revitalise the building and develop it for the future. Further announcements will be made in due course on these proposals, but they will be based on the extensive consultation and feedback already undertaken”.
Members of the public who might have spotted bats in the vicinity of the Market Hall building are kindly asked to provide any details to the Market Hall team leader - Lee.Ferrigon@eaststaffsbc.gov.uk
