East Staffordshire Borough Council has announced its Green Business Networking event will be running once again as part of the Great Big Green Week 2025, in partnership with Staffordshire Business and Environmental Network (SBEN).

The event will take place on Wednesday, 11 June 2025, from 9:30am- 12:30pm at The Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton upon Trent.

The East Staffordshire Green Business Networking event aims to bring together local businesses to discuss and explore sustainable practices, share knowledge, and connect with industry experts. Building on the success of last year's event, the 2025 edition offers even more targeted support for businesses at all stages of their sustainability journey.

Attendees will gain valuable insights on reducing their environmental impact and access to funding and support to help them achieve their sustainability goals. A special focus this year will be on practical, actionable steps businesses can take to reduce costs while enhancing their environmental credentials.

Councillor Dennis Fletcher, cabinet member for Environment and Climate Change, said: “As we confront climate change, supporting local businesses in adopting sustainable practices is essential. This networking event offers local businesses a chance to connect, learn, and gain practical support. The Council aims to help businesses reduce their environmental impact while enjoying cost savings and competitive advantages. Following last year's success, we look forward to an even better program this year.”

Councillor Paul Walker, cabinet member for Tourism and Cultural Development added: "The Green Business Networking event aligns with our vision for a sustainable East Staffordshire. By uniting local businesses, sustainability experts, and support organisations, we're fostering collaboration to meet sustainability challenges. This event highlights the importance of green credentials for business success in a changing economy. I encourage all local businesses to join us for an informative and inspiring morning."

The event will feature three expert speakers covering critical aspects of business sustainability:

  • Tom Bedford (Globe Group) will present on Green Skills
  • A representative from SBEN will discuss the Green Solutions funded business support program
  • Andy McKeown will share Norman's Musical Instruments' sustainable journey and their innovative ReTune instrument recycling program

Adam Whitehouse, TMT First chairperson at Staffordshire Business and Environmental Network, said: "We're delighted to be partnering with East Staffordshire Borough Council again for this important event. The Green Solutions Scheme continues to provide vital support to local businesses through free energy assessments, grants, and carbon literacy training. This networking event is an excellent opportunity for businesses to learn how they can access this support."

A key feature of this year's event will be a facilitated networking activity designed to connect businesses facing similar sustainability challenges, allowing for deeper collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The Green Business Networking event is open to all local businesses, regardless of their current sustainability status. Whether just starting out or well on the way to a greener future, attendees will find valuable resources and connections to help them grow and succeed.

The East Staffordshire Green Business Networking event is one of many sustainability-focused activities taking place across the borough during Great Big Green Week 2025. From 7 to 15 June, residents and businesses can participate in a variety of events designed to inspire climate action and environmental stewardship.

Another highlight of the week is the Climate Policy Impact Simulator workshop, taking place on Thursday, 12 June at Burton Town Hall (9:30 am - 12:30 pm). This interactive session, delivered by Globe Group CIC and led by regenerative change practitioner Rebecca Craske, offers participants the opportunity to explore the impacts of different climate policies using the internationally recognised En-ROADS simulation tool. The workshop is ideal for policymakers, advisors, and businesses interested in understanding the complex systems driving emissions reductions and testing evidence-based strategies for climate action.

Both events are free to attend, though advance registration is required due to limited capacity. For more information about all Great Big Green Week events taking place in East Staffordshire, visit the dedicated landing page.
