East Staffordshire Borough Council has announced a second screening of The People's Emergency Briefing documentary about climate change following the success of its first community screening at Brewhouse Arts Centre last month.

The event will take place on Friday, 7 August at the United Reformed Church, Uttoxeter, with two screenings at 3pm and 7 pm.

The People's Emergency Briefing is a 50-minute film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts to present a clear, evidence-based account of the climate and nature crisis and what it means for communities across the UK. It covers the implications for food security, public health, extreme weather, infrastructure and the cost of living.

Each session will be followed by an informal community discussion, inviting members of the audience to reflect on what the film means for their community and the actions they would like to see.

Tickets are free and available via Ticket Tailor. Places are limited to 50 per session.

The Burton screening in June drew an audience of around 70 people and sparked conversations that are still continuing. The Uttoxeter screening follows direct interest and requests from the community.

The film grew out of the National Emergency Briefing held at Westminster Central Hall in November 2025, attended by more than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from across UK society, and featured by ITV, Channel 4 and The Times. Broadcaster and naturalist Chris Packham introduced it.

Chris Packham has said: "I'd encourage people everywhere to attend a screening of The People's Emergency Briefing.

“It creates exactly the kind of honest local conversation we now urgently need, both about what these changes mean where we live, and about what we can do together to address them."

The event is being organised in partnership with the Uttoxeter United Reformed Church, Support Staffordshire's Green Network, and Uttoxeter Rotary, with further support from Live and Local.

Councillor Dennis Fletcher, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: "Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges facing our borough, and events like this are an important part of how we engage communities in that conversation.

“Our Burton screening showed just how much people care about this issue. I am delighted we are now bringing it to Uttoxeter, and I would encourage everyone to book a place while they can."

East Staffordshire Borough Council declared a climate emergency in 2020 and has set targets to make its own activities carbon neutral by 2040 and the borough carbon neutral by 2050.

The Council publishes an annual update on progress against its Climate Change and Nature Action Plan.
