People arriving in England or Scotland from abroad will no longer have to take Covid tests if they are fully vaccinated, the Prime Minister has announced.

Vaccinated travellers were previously required to do a test within two days of arriving, without having to isolate while waiting for their results.

The Government hopes that the decision will “show that this country is open for business ” and open for travellers ”.

The changes will come in from 4am on 11 February, in time for the half-term break.

Rules have also been eased for unvaccinated travellers, who will no longer have to take a day eight test or self isolate.

However, they will still need pre-departure and day two tests.

Erin Henwood, policy advisor at the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “The travel and tourism industries will be welcoming the Prime Minister 's latest announcement with open arms, following an incredibly difficult two years which have seen them severely hampered by constantly changing Covid-19 travel restrictions.

“Many people have avoided booking holidays, fearing that rules regarding testing and isolating would change and that they would be left stranded abroad. As such, the latest change will help to provide both English holidaymakers and international arrivals with more certainty and confidence to travel, subsequently boosting consumer demand.

“The announcement comes in the same week that Birmingham City Council opened its Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) Omicron Fund, whereby travel agents and tour operators that have been severely impacted by Covid-19 restrictions will be eligible for a one-off grant of up to £6,000.

“I strongly encourage travel agents and tour operators who think that they may be eligible for the ARG Omicron Fund to apply as soon as possible, whilst funding is still available, for a much-needed cash boost. ”
