Daredevil fundraisers are being invited to sign up for an abseil down Birmingham's landmark Three Brindleyplace for Cure Leukaemia.

The abseil is the equivalent of seven double decker buses and it will raise funds for the charity as part of their blood cancer awareness month fundraising activities.

The charity is seeking thrill seekers to sign up for their abseil on Saturday, 16 September with fundraisers required to pay an entry fee of £14 and raise a minimum of £140 in sponsorship.

Based in Birmingham, Cure Leukaemia fund the Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP) which is a network of specialist research nurses at 15 blood cancer centres located in the UK's biggest cities.

This network enables accelerated setup and delivery of potentially life-saving blood cancer clinical trials to run, giving patients from a UK catchment area of over 20 million people access to treatments not currently available through standard care.

The network has been funded by Cure Leukaemia since 2020 and costs over £1million per year to maintain.

Initially set up by Professor Charlie Craddock CBE and Graham Hampson-Silk in 2003, they are now celebrating their 20th birthday as a charity this year.

Cure Leukaemia Chief Executive James McLaughlin urged the people of Birmingham to join the Cure Leukaemia family and brave new heights to help find a cure for blood cancer:

“We can't wait to head into the heart of our homeland in September to help raise important funds for the charity.”

“I would urge anyone with a head for heights (or even those without!) to get involved and help support a local charity as we bid to put an end to this terrible disease”
