Talk about an unsung hero - because the affordable Dacia Sandero is the best-selling car in Europe, according to the latest sales data.

The Sandero is one of the cheapest hatchbacks going, with prices to buy outright beginning at £13,795.

You can lease a Dacia Sandero with Select right now from just £171 per month*.

And it seems the rest of Europe knows when they’re on to a good thing, too. The Sandero registered more sales than any other car in the first half of 2024, with the Volkswagen Golf in second place and the Renault Clio in third.

On a global scale, worldwide sales of 164,789 for the Sandero in the first half of 2024 are also up 18.5% on last year.

A Dacia spokesperson said: “Since it was first introduced in 2008, more than 3.1 million Sandero have been sold, proving that Dacia’s formula of offering all the essentials in a modern, robust and affordable package is continuing to find favour with a growing number of customers.”

Part of the Sandero’s appeal is that it’s well equipped as standard and the exterior design has come on leaps and bounds since its debut.

Entry-level models get air conditioning, cruise control with speed limiter, electric front windows, a comprehensive range of passive and active safety aids, and Dacia’s clever Media Control that places the smartphone at the heart of the infotainment system.

Meanwhile the range-topping versions of the Dacia Sandero boast an 8-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic air con.

Rivals to the Dacia Sandero include Skoda Fabia, Vauxhall Corsa, MG3 Hybrid, and the Suzuki Swift.
