Employers urged to give ex-offenders a second chance

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is calling on employers across the West Midlands to give people with convictions a second chance and hire them.

On 18 January, PCC Simon Foster (pictured) will be hosting his Annual Business Summit at Maple House in Birmingham.

He will be launching his Second Chances Charter - a commitment that organisations can sign up to where they agree to hire people who have a criminal record.

He will be joined by expert business leaders and the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Despite the wealth of information showing the benefits of employing people with convictions, they still experience many problems and barriers when trying to access employment.

The PCC says this is a worry, because if ex-offenders find work they are less likely to reoffend.

Chief finance officer Mark Kenyon will also present on the policing budget, council tax precept and funding position for 2023/2024 and answer questions from delegates.
