An event focusing on decarbonising in key sectors is to be launched as part of the Sustainable Business Series campaign conducted by the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce (GBCC).
The free to attend event will start at 9 am on 19 October at the Birmingham Energy Innovation Centre.
Decarbonisation is a central aspect to achieving net zero by 2040 which is a commitment that the UK Government has made.
As a result, sectors such as energy, transport and construction are going to have to play a big role considering their current role in emissions.
This event will discuss the key issues facing different sectors in decarbonising and will help businesses understand their role in the UK moving towards net zero.
Key Speakers include:
- Martin Freer, Director of the Birmingham Energy Institute
- David Horsfall, Property Director, Webster and Horsfall Group and Director of Tyseley Energy Park.
- Evelyn Phoenix, Business Engagement Officer, ATETA Project

The Sustainable Business Series is the Chambers flagship campaign on Sustainability and looks to support businesses in decarbonisation and their transition to net zero.
The campaign is running for the second consecutive year. Throughout the coming month, there are a range of webinars and events taking place. The remaining events include:
- Climate Risk and Adaption- The Role of Business: 27 October
- The Sustainable Business Series Conference: 2 November
Kuran Singh (pictured), Policy Advisor at the GBCC commented: “Decarbonisation is central in achieving our Net Zero goals. The Net Zero agenda remains of significant importance and businesses must be supported in their decarbonisation process. Providing them with insight and the knowledge required to reduce their level of carbon is therefore vitally important as only with knowledge and understanding can businesses in high carbon emitting sectors be successful in decarbonising.
“We are delighted to have experts from University of Birmingham, Tyseley Energy Park and Enterprise Holdings to share their experiences and provide businesses with valuable insight. Businesses signing up will be able to familiarise themselves with an understanding of sectoral challenges faced in both energy and transport. ”
