Nicola Turner (pictured), director of legacy for Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, will speak at the 'Opportunities on our Doorstep ' event taking place on 11 June at 11.30am as part of the Solihull themed Festival of Business week.
She will present an insight into the legacy created by the biggest event to be held in the UK for ten years and how business can get involved.
Nicola 's job is to ensure the people, businesses and institutions in the region directly benefit from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
She is responsible for aligning and galvanising the Games partners to create a lasting legacy and leads the planning and delivery of all legacy programmes associated with the largest sports and culture event ever to be staged in the West Midlands. Programmes include jobs and skills, volunteering, venues, participation of schools and young people, improving physical activity and wellbeing, civic pride and community cohesion.
Nicola said: "The Games offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to put Birmingham, the West Midlands and our people and businesses on the global stage. There will be 1.5bn people watching and 6,500 athletes in this Games for Everyone, which is set for the largest ever female and para-sport programme in Commonwealth Games history."
"Sport is just the start. From our opening and closing ceremonies and six-month cultural festival, to the International Queen 's Baton Relay, Birmingham 2022 will be a region-wide celebration of the power of art to bring people together and make connections across the UK and Commonwealth.
"The Games is already a catalyst for transformation, accelerating investment in local housing and transport, generating jobs and apprenticeships, and will bring trade and tourism to the region. This has taken on even greater significance following the pandemic and is playing a significant role in the recovery plan for the West Midlands and a long-awaited reason to bring our communities together again."
The event will also hear more about the exciting opportunities and inward investments created by the new High Speed 2 railway line, the NEC 's hosting of 11 days worth of Commonwealth Games events and the Urban Growth Company 's transformation of the UK Central Hub.
Additional speakers include Alison McGrory, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council lead for Commonwealth Games Solihull, Claire Barker, head of communications & engagement at Urban Growth Company and Michael Dyke, managing director at Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) for High Speed 2 (HS2).
The event is free for all members and non-members to attend.
