A former BBC TV director and founder of a Lichfield-based video production company has launched a new smartphone training course to help businesses grasp the social media nettle.

Michael Wood, managing director at Embrace Video, delivered the first course aimed at helping businesses create professional smartphone videos earlier this month at IET Austin Court in Birmingham.

The workshop was attended by business owners and marketing professionals from across the West Midlands.

Delegates learned how to plan, script and storyboard a video, as well as how to film and edit high-quality video content using just their smartphones. Michael also shared tips and advice on how to look comfortable and confident on camera.

Michael (pictured) said: “In an increasingly noisy and competitive online world, video has fast become one of the most effective ways for a business to reach and engage its audience. With the volume of online video only predicted to continue to increase further, professional-looking video content is essential for any business looking to make an impact on social media.

“Many companies simply don 't have the budget to regularly outsource video production projects, so this course is designed to help businesses learn how to create high quality, cost-effective video content in-house.

“I am absolutely delighted with the success of my smartphone video training course and the very kind feedback I have received from delegates. It is a pleasure to share my years of TV and video production experience with forward-thinking businesses that want to take their video content to the next level. ”

Anna Riley, managing director at The English Indian street food business, said: “The course is exactly what people are looking for right now, perfectly delivered and very time appropriate - just what I was looking for. ”

Alexandra Liddiard, sales & marketing manager at Boldmere St Michael's Football Club said: “I had a fantastic day with Michael. The course was fun and enjoyable whilst also being really informative. I 'd highly recommend it. ”

Before establishing Embrace Video in 2022, Michael spent 13 years at the BBC where he worked as a live television director on programmes such as BBC News, Children in Need and the Antiques Roadshow. He now works with a team of associate camera operators, video editors and graphic designers to create corporate video content for businesses and organisations.

After the success of April 's smartphone video training workshop, Embrace Video has announced that another course will be taking place on Tuesday 16th May.
