A programme designed to help recruit family magistrates in the Black Country has been launched by the High Sheriff of the West Midlands, Doug Wright.

Mr Wright (pictured), a patron of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, is using his term as High Sheriff to promote the work of family court magistrates.

He has launched the Supporting Magistrates Programme, which provides assistance and resources to those interested in volunteering as magistrates to the Black Country family courts.

The High Sheriff is hosting in-person and online events over the coming weeks, enabling people to learn from current magistrates, find out more about the role and how to apply.

Attendees will also learn about the transferable skills from the role such as critical analysis, time management and conflict resolution.

The in-person session takes place at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre on 3 July (6pm to 7.30pm).

A virtual session is being help on Teams on 10 June (6pm to 7.30pm).
