The Footprints Family charity, based in Kenya, is celebrating a month of fundraising initiatives alongside two students who are now advocating for better healthcare systems.

Donations had been made to the charity by various businesses based in Burton including Russel Roof Tiles and Burton-on-Trent Football Club.

These firms have also purchased handmade community products that empowers families, create sustainable livelihoods and support children and youth.

The holiday season also saw ongoing maintenance for waterways and the new dormitory which is near completion.

The charity has also introduced a dignity pack to elevate the living conditions of children living in unsettling home conditions. These include bedding, cups, cookware, mosquito nets, and lanterns.

Meanwhile, two young girls who has benefitted from the charity is now sharing their experiences while giving back to the community by initiating a health hub.

Rachel and Eliza have been with Footprints from a very young age and are now experts in the healthcare and community health field.

They said: “We were rescued by Footprints in 2010 when we were both very young and completely alone in the world.

“We had lost everything — our parents, our home, and any sense of security. Footprints became our family.

“Through the love, care, and protection we received, we were given something we had never known before: hope.

“Footprints supported us through primary school, high school, and then on to college, always believing in us even when we doubted ourselves.

“Because of that belief, we were able to train and qualify in healthcare and community health. Today, with the continued support of Footprints, we have been given the opportunity to start a community health hub in our own local community.

“This centre will provide basic first-line health services such as blood pressure checks, malaria testing, blood sugar testing for diabetes, and referrals for further care.

“Footprints didn’t just rescue us; they walked with us every step of the way. Now, we are walking with our community.”
