After the launch of Fabulous Phonics in April, former Balsall Common Primary School pupil Mikey Akers from Mikey 's Wish is planning to cycle 1,200 miles/ 1,900 km across the Amazon Rainforest.

The event launched on 17 November, the day Secondary Schools in Solihull launch their own COP style convention.

Balsall Common Primary School 's pupils will also be helping Mikey (pictured) to raise awareness of the plight of the Amazon Rainforest and to raise funds to promote awareness of Verbal Dyspraxia, they hope to raise an amount of £30,000.

Mikey was recently chosen to be one of the Baton Bearers for the Commonwealth Games because of his charity work. He is keen to promote awareness of Verbal Dyspraxia around the world and highlight the impact of deforestation with this fundraising event.

Balsall Common Primary School pupils have also recently won several eco awards:

Mission: Sustainability - Enzen Promote ebikes in cities - Creative award

Greener Solihull Schools Award - UN17 goals/sustainability SDG

Green Flag - Silver Award

Now with the help of their Eco Ambassadors, and a few supporters, they are going to 'ride across the rainforest '.

To help support the event, donations and posts on social media pages using the hashtag #Rainforestride are welcome.
