A former University College Birmingham student has been crowned the winner of BBC 's MasterChef: The Professionals.

Daniel Lee (pictured), from Hall Green, is the show 's second winner to come from Birmingham in the space of three years, following on from 2019 champion Stu Deeley.

He wowed judges in the final with a menu inspired by his Chinese, English and Irish heritage.

The three-course menu was made up of Singapore chilli crab, followed by Singapore chicken rice and then smoked hay treacle tart.

After Dan was named the winner, judge Marcus Wareing described him as “a star in the making ”.

Dan went to Hall Green Secondary School and then attended UCB where he earned a diploma in cookery.

The 29-year-old used to cook at Michelin-starred celebrity restaurant Table65 in Singapore, but now works alone as a private chef.
