Freight forwarder celebrates 35 years of loyalty

Statistics show that on average 80 per cent of workers stay at their job for less than ten years - but one Birmingham freight forwarder is bucking this trend.

Millennium Cargo are celebrating two of the company’s most valued team members reaching major milestones at once.

Sales and Operations manager, Ali Askar, has been with the business for 25 years, and commercial director, Connor Blunt, is celebrating ten years of service.

Between them, that’s 35 years of dedication, freight expertise, and commitment - and the Millennium team says it’s these values that have built the company’s reputation as a trusted name in international shipping.

Ali, who joined in 2000, has become the go-to man for all things freight. From quotes and shipments to document legalisation and customs clearances, there’s little he hasn’t seen or handled.

Known for his approachable, helpful nature, he’s described by colleagues as someone who is hugely dedicated to his clients and “lives, sleeps and breathes freight.”

Connor’s journey has been very different, but equally inspiring. Starting at Millennium Cargo as a teenager, he worked through almost every department before stepping into senior leadership.

Now as commercial director, he’s driving the business forward - shaping partnerships, building client strategies, and developing the team to ensure Millennium stays competitive and customer-focused.

Managing director Chadd Blunt said: “Ali and Connor’s achievements really show what Millennium Cargo is all about - the people. We’re not just another faceless forwarder - we actually care about building relationships, with our customers and with our team. Ali’s knowledge and loyalty over 25 years, and Connor’s growth into a leadership role over the last decade, are things we’re incredibly proud of. They’ve played a huge part in making the company what it is today.”

With long-serving experts like Ali and ambitious leaders like Connor, the company is well-placed to continue delivering exceptional service for years to come.
