In an era where entrepreneurship is often associated with risk, uncertainty and long working hours, Rashad Ali and Nisar Ahmed have demonstrated what can happen when a clear vision is matched with discipline, expertise and an unwavering belief in an idea.

While continuing to work full-time in their professional careers in the Energy sector, Rashad and Nisar set themselves an ambitious challenge: to build a modern travel business from the ground up.

Within one and a half years, that vision became Cypher Travel — an innovative UK travel company combining technology, transparency and customer experience to make travel simpler, smarter and more accessible.

Their journey is not simply a story about launching a business. It is a story about recognising an opportunity, challenging convention and having the courage to build something better.

Spotting the opportunity

The idea began with a familiar frustration: booking travel can be unnecessarily complicated.

Too many choices, unclear pricing and fragmented booking processes can leave customers feeling overwhelmed.

Rather than accept the status quo, Nisar and Rashad saw an opportunity to do things differently. Their vision was to combine technology, transparency and human support to create a better experience for travellers.

That vision became Cypher Travel, including the development of an AI-powered itinerary builder designed to help customers plan personalised journeys more easily.

Turning ambition into action

Launching a travel business is about far more than building a website.

The founders had to develop supplier relationships, establish a reliable supply chain, understand complex industry regulations and build a brand customers could trust.

One of their key milestones was securing Travel Trust Association (TTA) membership, reinforcing their commitment to operating with credibility and consumer confidence at the heart of the business. For a young company, these foundations matter. They demonstrate that innovation and responsible business practice can — and should — go hand in hand.

Putting customers in control

One of Cypher Travel's most exciting areas of innovation is its approach to Umrah travel.

For UK pilgrims, arranging Umrah has traditionally involved navigating complex packages and multiple providers. Cypher Travel's DIY online Umrah platform aims to change that by giving pilgrims greater flexibility to choose their flights, hotels and transport according to their individual needs and budget.

It is a powerful example of the founders' wider philosophy: Technology should give people more choice, not more complexity.

The power of partnership

The partnership between Nisar and Rashad is central to the company's story.

Nisar brings financial expertise as a Chartered Accountant, while Rashad brings technology, digital transformation and strategic leadership experience as an IT consultant and CIO. Their different skillsets have created a shared strength — combining commercial discipline with technological innovation.

It is a lesson that resonates with entrepreneurs everywhere: you don't have to have every answer yourself. The right partnership can turn individual strengths into something much greater.

What's next?

Cypher Travel's first 20 months was about proving the concept.

The next phase is about scaling the vision. As artificial intelligence and digital technology continue to reshape the travel industry, the founders see enormous potential to make travel more personalised, accessible and intuitive. They have coined the strap line “Find it, Click it, Book it” which resonates with customers and their strategy of making complex travel easy.

Their journey also reflects something fundamental about entrepreneurship in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands: great businesses can start with a simple idea, a willingness to challenge convention and the determination to keep going.

Cypher Travel is still at the beginning of its journey. But perhaps its biggest achievement so far is proving that you don't need to wait for the perfect moment to become an entrepreneur. You just need to start. One idea. Two determined founders. Twelve months of action. And a vision for where the journey could lead next.
