A family-run funeral director and memorial mason has launched a campaign offering free headstones to families unable to afford a memorial, to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Walsh Funerals & Memorials, based in Cannock, is encouraging people to submit nominations through the Little Angels Facebook page, helping ensure families in need are aware of the support available.

Baby Loss Awareness Week is an annual event held from 9 to 15 October that brings together bereaved families, charities, healthcare professionals, and communities to remember babies who have died, raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss, and drive change in bereavement care and support.

The funeral director hopes to reach more families who may otherwise be unable to afford a memorial, ensuring that financial circumstances do not prevent them from creating a lasting tribute to their little angel.

A statement from Walsh Funerals & Memorials said: “As a family-run funeral director and memorial mason, We understands that losing a child is a heartbreak no family should have to face.

“For many parents, creating a lasting memorial is an important part of remembering their little one, providing a special place to visit, reflect and keep their memory alive. However, the financial cost of a memorial can add further pressure to families already navigating unimaginable grief.

“Through the Little Angels campaign, We aim to ease some of that burden by offering free headstones to families who are unable to afford one. The initiative reflects our company's belief that every child deserves to be remembered, and every family should have the opportunity to create a meaningful tribute, regardless of their financial circumstances.

“Baby Loss Awareness Week provides an important opportunity to raise awareness, remember the babies and children who are no longer with us, and acknowledge the lasting impact of loss on parents, siblings and wider families. It also highlights the importance of compassion, understanding and practical support during some of life's most difficult moments.

“For us, the Little Angels campaign is about more than memorials. It is about recognising that every little life matters, every family deserves compassion, and every child deserves a lasting place in the hearts and memories of those who love them.”
