Future creatives display innovative designs at college exhibition
Creative students at Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) recently showcased an impressive display of work during their end of year Creative Exhibition.
The opening night event on included a stunning live fashion show, featuring collections from some of the College’s budding fashion designers including Ella Baker.
Ella (pictured) is a Level 3 Fashion and Textiles student at BSDC, who displayed her clothing collection inspired by 60s space-age, focusing on retro-futurism.
She was inspired by one of her favourite artists, Paco Rabanne who did a lot of work in the 60s with A-line dress designs which Ella has incorporated in her collection.
Speaking about the exhibition, Ella said: "I was really excited for others to see my work and to hear my parents' feedback. I started by altering my own clothes at home with a sewing machine and decided to take this course to explore my potential - I'm really proud of what I've accomplished."
Ella is returning to BSDC in the next academic year to continue her studies and progress to the foundation degree in Contemporary Creative Practice where she can specialise in Fashion, Textiles and Surface Pattern.
The exhibition is an inspirational showcase of the emerging creative talent at Burton and South Derbyshire College, as well as a celebration of the creative industry.
It is a culmination of the hard work and talent of students from across a range of creative areas, including fashion, art, film, product design, graphics and photography.
Emma Strange, curriculum director of Creative Industries at Burton and South Derbyshire College said: “Our end of year exhibition is a prestigious event, which provides the ideal platform for learners to showcase their skills, talents and professionalism.
“The creative industry is a growing sector, offering a range of exciting and fulfilling career opportunities.
