Future Faces hosts winning mindset workshop with GBYPY winners
Past winners of the Greater Birmingham Young Professional of the Year awards gave Future Faces members a glimpse into what makes a standout entry during a ‘winning mindset’ workshop.
The event was held at the Symphony Hall and included overall GBYPY 2025 winner Becca Horley, and judges of the last two GBYPY awards, Tom Green and GuruYou founder Rebecca Mander.
The workshop gave members the opportunity to hear from past winners who shared their experiences, tips and what made their application shine.
Becca Horley, a medical negligence solicitor at Fletchers Solicitors, said: “Winning the awards is like a springboard for your career and it’s a chance for you to have opportunities that you wouldn’t otherwise have. I am surrounded by people now who are so supportive and lift me up.
“Winning the awards puts you in the rooms with people that are like you and you wouldn’t have that if you didn’t apply for the awards.
“People need to be resilient and just go for it. The main thing about the awards is the opportunities you get from it and the platform. Winning the awards changes the whole trajectory.”
Tom Green, operations leader at WPP media said: “Being part of the GBYPY judging panel gave me a real insight into the incredible talent emerging from Birmingham, and the standard is genuinely exceptional.
“What truly sets people apart, I've found, is how nominees show up and tell their story.
“That's precisely what we aimed to bring to life with the Winning Mindset session at Symphony Hall.
“It wasn't about how to win an award, but how to think, prepare, and put yourself forward with authenticity and warmth."
