Future Faces member hosts fundraiser ahead of London marathon challenge

A Future Faces member is fundraising for Cure Leukaemia ahead of taking on the London Marathon in 2027.  

Mariam Khatoon, a lecturer at South and City College, hosted a Pilates event at RM Studios in Digbeth bringing together a small group of people to help raise funds for the charity.  

Funds raised from the event will help support research and give more people with blood cancer the opportunity to access new and potentially life changing research.

Mariam said: “I wanted the event to be centred around moving our bodies because I’ve seen first-hand what blood cancer and treatment can take away from someone.

“Watching someone you love lose the ability to move in the way they once could really changes how you look at your own body and the things you probably never thought twice about before.

“That’s where the idea of movement being a privilege really came from for me.

She added: “It was such a lovely afternoon and probably more emotional than I expected. I also shared a small part of my story and why I’m fundraising, which was outside of my comfort zone.

“Blood cancer has changed the way I look at so many things and made me appreciate the things we can so easily take for granted.

“The main thing I wanted everyone to take away from the event was that movement is a privilege. We don’t have to move our bodies, we get to.

“There is still a very long way to go before the 2027 London Marathon, but I’m really grateful to everyone who came along, donated and supported something that means so much to me and my family.”
