Future Faces member take on Cancer Research UK’s pull-up challenge

Future Faces Chamber of Commerce member and Intercity’s Dynamics 365 administrator Akaash Thao (pictured) has embarked on a challenge to do 310 pull-ups within a month to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

The funds will help continue the vital research conducted by the world’s leading cancer charity, who examines more than 200 types of cancer.

Akaash said: “This is the first time I’m doing an event like this and I was particularly interested because I thought it would be a fun way to combine my existing routine with a motivation that goes beyond myself.

“I enjoy working out, but it’s even better when there is a goal to work towards. It just so happens that the goal this time presented itself as an opportunity to raise money for charity, so I thought why not? There is even a Facebook group where volunteers share their progress and cheer each other on.”

Akaash is also encouraging fellow members to take on the challenge with other types of activities including squats or hiking.

He said: “Regardless of your skill level, you can tailor the activity to your own abilities. For example, some people are starting with band-assisted pull-ups, which I imagine will be even more rewarding when they find themselves progressing to unassisted pull-ups as a result of doing this challenge.

“I would encourage anyone and everyone to get involved in something like this, no matter what it is. You don’t even have to be affected by the cause in any way. But I believe that if you are able to contribute, then it is your responsibility to do what you can, even if it just a bit of exercise every morning.
