A number of Future Faces members recently took part in the Great Birmingham Run, both in the half-marathon and 10k races.

Becca Horley, associate at Shoosmiths, and Joe Greenfield, production manager at Colour Cubed, ran the half marathon, while Alarna Lawley, account manager at Colour Cubed, and Aysha Bateman, Management trainee- Housing, Property and Regeneration at the WMCA, ran the 10k.

Speaking about running the marathon, Becca said: “Participating in the Birmingham Half Marathon was really fun! The atmosphere was special because the race brings together so many people from around the city. For me, running is a way to prove to myself that I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to. I am particularly proud of achieving a new PB!”

Joe added: “I wanted to take part in the Great Birmingham Run this year because I knew how much of a great day it is. After running it last year and experiencing the atmosphere and positive energy in the city, I wasn't going to miss it this year. It's always a great event and, as a proud Brummie, I think it helps to showcase the spirit of our great city- you only need to look at the thousands of people getting up at the crack of dawn (on a Sunday!) to cheer and support all the runners to see that!

“The race itself was great overall, albeit tough in parts - but that's where the energy from the crowd helps to spur you on. The main overarching feeling from the day was pride, in myself and all of my friends, firstly for completing the race, then also for achieving our individual goals but especially in those who were fundraising, for raising money and awareness for some great charities. I'm already looking forward to next year.”

Speaking about running the 10k, Alarna said: “I ran the 10K with my sister, we both enjoy group runs like parkrun and wanted to try something a bit more challenging and a bit more fun. A couple of our friends were also running, so we decided to join in!

It was really lovely being out there with so many other runners, and the crowd support made such a difference, some of the signs were brilliant and finishing hand in hand with my sister was a really nice way to end it.”

Aysha added: “I ran the 10K this year as a personal challenge but also to help fundraise for St. Basils. Having worked in housing for over two years now I understand the importance of the accommodation they provide for young people.

“It felt amazing to run, tiring but amazing, and so inspirational to see everyone’s stories and reasons for running. I can’t wait to do it again.”
