Volunteers at the Commonwealth games held in Birmingham were presented with the president 's award at the Solihull Chamber of Commerce annual dinner and awards ceremony.

The dinner was held last Friday at Hilton Birmingham Metropole with 400 guests attending.

Solihull hosted a myriad of games as one of the host authorities. The NEC held six events including Badminton, Weightlifting & Para Powerlifting, Boxing, Table Tennis and Netball.

The award was presented by the president of the Solihull Chamber of Commerce and general manager of Touchwood, Tony Elvin.

He said: “One of the biggest reasons for the success of our Commonwealth Games this year, was down to the sacrifices made by local people, to take leave from their work and donate their time to The Games.

“They set the tone for the spirit of the games and created a welcoming hug of friendship to visitors from around the globe, helping our region to shine on the largest platform. ”

The awards night was sponsored by Solihull College & University Centre, Solihull Metropolitan borough Council, and the Hilton Birmingham Metropole

Motorserv UK won the Solihull business of the year, sponsored by Schofield & Associates and Solihull 's Award for Excellence in Customer Services, sponsored by Active Clinics.
