Garrick goes back to the classroom to mark 20 years

Lichfield’s Garrick Theatre is taking its talents out into the classroom – marking 20 years of theatrical excellence in the Cathedral city.

The Garrick20 initiative, launched as part of celebrations to mark 20 years of the Garrick, is taking a unique educational approach to the milestone.

A spokesman for the Garrick said:  “Instead of confining the festivities within the walls of the theatre, the Lichfield Garrick Community team has extended their warm embrace to the local schools in Lichfield District and its neighboring areas.

“The team's mission is clear: to support the curriculum and provide students with an opportunity to be inspired within the arts. These activities not only add a touch of excitement to the classroom but also foster creativity and imagination among the younger generation.”

The spokesman said the response had been “overwhelmingly positive” with 20 schools currently signed up for the programme and others in the pipeline.

“This surge in interest highlights the community's eagerness to engage with the arts and underscores the importance of cultural enrichment in education.”

The Lichfield Garrick Community team is currently in close discussions with the participating schools to tailor their support and create something special for each institution.

“These collaborative efforts aim to enrich the school experience, spark creativity, and instill a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts,” added the spokesman.
