Professional services group, Gateley, is marking 10 years of its national academy for housebuilders programme - which has had more than 650 junior professionals attend since it launched in 2016.

The free series of workshop-style modules is designed to support the next generation of talent in the residential development sector, including graduates and young professionals in land, planning and technical teams.

Hosted across Gateley’s offices in London, Birmingham and Leeds, the workshops are predominantly delivered by Gateley Legal’s residential development lawyers, alongside its consultancy professionals within the wider Group.

With four modules delivered over the course of 12 months, the academy follows the full lifecycle of a residential development site from heads of terms all the way through to final plot sales and exiting schemes.

Sessions have also covered matters including planning, serving notices and customer care. Specialist topics have also been delivered by the tax experts at Gateley Capitus, as well as land and utilities consultants at Gateley Hamer.

Haydn Tomlinson, senior land manager at Vistry East Yorkshire, graduated from Gateley’s academy for housebuilders and commented: “I attended Gateley’s academy for housebuilders back in 2019 and can honestly say it gave me invaluable insight into the legal requirements of residential development which I’ve been able to apply to my role to ensure we’re working as effectively as possible with our legal teams to get deals over the line.

“We’ve now had several colleagues complete Gateley’s academy for housebuilders over the years, and I really can’t recommend it enough for junior housebuilding professionals.”

Andy Wilson, partner and national head of residential development at Gateley Legal, said: “Delighting clients is at the forefront of all we do, and we pride ourselves on adding additional value to our housebuilder and developer relationships through supplementary services including these workshops designed to help shape careers.

“We’ve had outstanding feedback over the past ten years from clients and attendees, with our growing cohorts being made up of graduates, as well as young professionals seeking a ‘back to basics’ refresher.

“Being part of a professional services group means we can also include specialist presentations from consultancy colleagues which adds another level of insight and keeps the course developing each year.

“A big thank you to all involved in the delivery of our workshops, as well as our alumni from the past ten years.”
