Greener Solihull School Awards celebrate students’ eco-friendly achievements
The achievements of Solihull pupils in making their schools more eco-friendly were celebrated at the Greener Solihull Schools Awards.
Organised by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, the awards challenge students and staff to learn about the environment locally and globally, while making their school more eco-friendly.
The awards are broken down into four different levels – with participating schools completing an evidence pack to show progress towards each level.
Awards celebration day included a ‘Mother Earth’ theatre performance in the morning, followed by the awards presentation in the afternoon, hosted by performer Histrionics.
Sponsors including the Solihull Chamber of Commerce were also in attendance.
Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Annette Mackenzie, said: “Our Greener Schools Awards highlight the incredible energy and imagination of young people across Solihull. From tackling litter to creating bee-friendly spaces, pupils are proving that sustainability can be woven into everyday life.
“With the continued support of Birmingham Airport and our local partners, this programme is helping schools to make lasting changes that benefit our community and the wider environment.
“I am immensely proud of the schools involved and the example they are setting for us all.”
Schools who achieved Level 4 included Balsall Common, Coppice, Damson Wood, Monkspath, Oak Cottage, Peterbrook and St Augustines.
