Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar score to be performed at Lichfield Cathedral
Lichfield Cathedral is to host Interstellar in Concert, performed by Roger Sayer, the original organist on Hans Zimmer’s Oscar nominated soundtrack for Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed film Interstellar.
The performance, happening on Friday, 8 May from 7.30pm to 9pm, will take place on the cathedral’s Hill Organ, offering audiences a rare chance to experience one of cinema’s most iconic scores performed live by the artist who helped create it.
In 2014, Roger Sayer received an unexpected call from Hans Zimmer, inviting him to record the organ part for the soundtrack of Interstellar.
What followed became one of the most significant collaborations of Roger’s musical career.
Praised as “Overwhelming, Immersive, Bold, Beautiful” (Time Out) and “Enthralling and Amazing” (The Observer), Interstellar remains one of the most celebrated films of the decade, earning five Academy Award nominations, including Best Original Score.
Hans Zimmer himself has described Sayer as: “Without exaggeration, an extraordinary artist whose humanity shines in the impeccable artistry that flows from his hands.”
Tickets are priced at £15–£30, available via the Cathedral website.
This is a fundraising event, with all profits going towards the ongoing upkeep of Lichfield Cathedral.
