Leading Midlands youth homelessness charity St Basils is urging volunteers to lace up their hiking boots and join a trek around the beautiful Welsh hills near Abergavenny.

The Hike for Homeless 2024 has been pencilled in for Saturday June 8 to support vulnerable young people facing homelessness.

"The Hike for Homeless isn't just about fundraising; it's about promoting wellbeing and camaraderie." says Barrie Hodge, Head of Fundraising and Communications at St Basils.

"In today's world, where the cost-of-living crisis and the lack of affordable housing are pushing more people into uncertainty, the need for mental and emotional support is greater than ever. By participating in this hike, you're not only getting fit and enjoying the great outdoors, but you're also making a tangible difference to the lives of over 4,000 young vulnerable people every year."

Studies have shown that spending time in nature can have profound positive effects on mental health, reducing stress levels and promoting a sense of calm and wellbeing. The Hike for Homeless offers the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature and reap the benefits of outdoor exercise.

Organisers say the team element of the hike fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie, providing participants with invaluable support and encouragement along the way.

“And let's not forget about the stunning countryside views. With every step, you'll encounter picturesque landscapes begging to be captured and shared on social media. From rolling hills to lush forests, the countryside provides the perfect backdrop for your next Instagram post.

“Ready to boost your wellbeing, bond with fellow adventurers, and make a meaningful impact in your community? Register for the Hike for Homeless by searching ‘St Basils hike for homeless.
