A Birmingham charity with a combined 155-year history is looking for a new chair of trustees to help drive forward its mission to help even more people access expert palliative and end of life care.

The Hospice Charity Partnership is the primary provider of hospice palliative care across Birmingham and the charity is now looking to appoint a new chair of trustees with a real passion for increasing access to hospice care for local communities.

Formed of Birmingham St Mary 's Hospice in Selly Park and John Taylor Hospice in Erdington, the charity is leading the way in shaping end of life services for the people of Birmingham.

The current chair of trustees, Harry Turner (pictured), is stepping down after a set term of nearly seven years at the helm and hopes to allow a new chair to continue championing the hospice movement across the city.

In April 2022, the charity 's John Taylor site was awarded 'Outstanding ' by the Care Quality Commission; reflecting the dynamic, responsive and passionate approach that hospice teams take to meet the needs of the diverse communities they serve.

Leading on education and research, with a strong commitment to improving palliative and end of life care for everyone, The Hospice Charity Partnership has an active involvement in teaching other health and social care providers.

Each day The Hospice Charity Partnership supports up to 1,000 people, but the organisation is aiming to extend its reach even further to communities that need them in the future - with the help of a new Chair of Trustees dedicated to diversity, inclusion and hospice care.

Simon Fuller, CEO of The Hospice Charity Partnership, said: “It has been a great honour for the charity to have had Harry as our chair of trustees, and I have enjoyed being able to work with him closely across the years to develop and grow our charity vision.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to him for all the time he has dedicated to The Hospice Charity Partnership, to help even more people across Birmingham access the very best palliative and end of life care.

“Harry 's efforts to continue our hospice palliative care mission have been invaluable to our charity, as well as his generous guidance as Chair of Trustees. We wish him the very best for the future. ”

Harry said: “I have spent almost seven years as Chair, initially at John Taylor Hospice, then at Birmingham St Mary 's, before the merger of the newly formed Hospice Charity Partnership completed in August 2021.

“It has been the greatest privilege of my life to work with very special teams in Birmingham as they responded amazingly to the pandemic, brought together two much-loved hospices, and achieved an Outstanding CQC rating.

“I have been able to see first-hand the difference they make to families when they are often dealing with life-changing circumstances. The Hospice Charity Partnership has incredible people working together. ”
