Burton Albion Football Club has announced the permanent signing of Jón Dadi Bödvarsson on a short-term contract.

The 32-year-old forward joins the Brewers following the expiration of his contract at Wrexham and will be available for selection ahead of Saturday’s match against Crawley Town.

Bödvarsson arrives at the Pirelli Stadium with a wealth of experience in English football.

After making the move to Wolves in 2016 from German side Kaiserslautern, the Icelandic striker spent five years in the Championship Reading and Millwall following his stint at Molineux.

More recently, Bödvarsson has enjoyed spells with Bolton and Wrexham in the third tier of English football.

The forward has also made 64 appearances for the Icelandic national team since his senior debut in 2012.

Most notably, Bödvarsson started every game during Iceland’s remarkable Euro 2016 campaign, which took them all the way to the quarter finals. He was also included in their 2018 World Cup squad.

On signing for the Brewers, Bödvarsson said: “It's brilliant to be here. I'm really looking forward to meeting up with the lads and hopefully I can help the team to climb up the table.

"The club has a nice family feel to it and as a family man myself I can't wait to get started."

Burton Albion head coach Gary Bowyer added: “I'm absolutely delighted. To have attracted somebody of his experience and his quality is a real credit to everybody.

“We can't wait for him to get going because he's going to be such a valuable player for us.”
