Indian restaurant named best in the Midlands
A leading Indian restaurant in Birmingham city centre has been named 'Best Restaurant in the Midlands ' at the 6th annual Asian Food and Restaurant Awards.
Dilbar Restaurant & Cocktail Bar in Broad Street on Westside picked up the trophy at a glittering gala event at The Montcalm Hotel in Marble Arch, London.
The family-owned independent restaurant, which was previously called East is East, only opened in November 2019, shortly before the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
The venue employs 15 staff and can accommodate 150 diners downstairs with room for a further 125 guests upstairs.
Pam Bassi, who owns Dilbar and runs it with business partner Salman Tariq, said: “It has been a very difficult time due to the impact of Covid-19 and ongoing construction work in the city centre, but we have been able to rise above the challenges.
“We are also very new to the restaurant industry which is why we are so pleased to have won this prestigious award. This annual gathering celebrates the best of the Asian food industry so it was an honour to be recognised. ”
She added: “We now enter 2022 with a positive momentum. Due to the Commonwealth Games, it 's set to be an exciting year in Birmingham. ”
