Electro Automation UK has been shortlisted for the Railway Industry Association (RIA) Innovation Award for its pioneering Telescopic Cantilever Rail Crossing Gate.

Designed, engineered, and manufactured at the company’s Birmingham headquarters, the Telescopic Cantilever Sliding Gate was developed specifically for Network Rail level crossing trial sites where conventional lifting barriers are unsuitable.

The system offers a safe, compliant, and reliable alternative for complex or space-constrained crossing environments.

The recognition marks a significant milestone for Electro Automation UK, which has now been approved and certified as a provider of Telescopic Cantilever Sliding Gates for Network Rail trial applications.

Developed in collaboration with Network Rail and industry partners, the innovative gate system addresses many of the operational and spatial challenges associated with traditional rail crossing infrastructure.

Its advanced telescopic cantilever design enables controlled and secure access while maximising efficiency in locations where standard barriers cannot be effectively deployed.

The technology has already featured as part of the Nunthorpe level crossing renewal project, contributing to improved safety and reliability for pedestrians, motorists, and rail passengers alike.

Gavin Hancox, managing director of Electro Automation UK, said: “Our Telescopic Cantilever Sliding Gate reflects the exceptional level of innovation, engineering expertise, and manufacturing precision within our business.

“We are proud to support safer rail crossings across the UK with a British-made solution designed to meet the evolving needs of modern rail infrastructure.

“This recognition from the Railway Industry Association is a significant achievement for our team and further reinforces our commitment to delivering innovative, safety-focused solutions for the rail sector.”
