A 235-year-old Jewellery Quarter-based manufacturer of luxury cufflinks has come up with a gem of an idea - in the shape of a limited-edition Coronation collection.

Deakin and Francis, a seventh generation family firm dating back to 1786, has designed and manufactured fine jewellery, luxury cufflinks and accessories from the same Birmingham premises since the reign of George the Third.

Now, well over two centuries later, the Birmingham firm has launched King Charles Cypher Cufflinks available in two styles, oblong and oval, across four colours.

The one-off cufflinks feature the King 's cypher and are crafted using a rare industry technique called vitreous enamelling, with up to six layers of powdered glass applied by hand to each piece. The cufflinks are stamped by using traditional manufacturing tools at the firm 's headquarters.

Meanwhile, the company has also produced Coronation Emblem Cufflinks, creating the range from sterling silver featuring St Edward 's Crown, with which the King will be crowned. The cufflinks are handcrafted and engraved with the emblem featuring four nations characterised by the Rose (England), Thistle (Scotland), Daffodil (Wales), and Shamrock (Northern Ireland).

And the firm will also be launching St Edward 's Crown Cufflinks, a 3D sterling silver crown product inspired by the crown to be worn by Charles.

Managing Director Henry Deakin said: “We are so proud to launch these cufflinks to commemorate the coronation of King Charles 111. These are handcrafted to honour the King, and also celebrating British heritage. We have used age-old jewellery-making techniques for over 235 years to deliver impeccable quality throughout our pieces. ”

In 1953, the brand commemorated the coronation of Queen Elizabeth the Second by creating a range of sterling silver tea spoons, jam spoons and butter knives adorned with the coronation motif.

During its lengthy and distinguished history, Deakin and Francis 's team of jewellers, goldsmiths and silversmiths have created more than 3,000 cufflink designs for celebrities, members of Royalty worldwide and the business sector. Stockists include Harrods and other well-known international retailers.
