Langan’s Tea Rooms, the social enterprise operated by The O’Connor Gateway Trust, has been nominated for a National Insight Award.

The nomination comes during a landmark year for the Burton-based tea rooms as it celebrates 15 years as the region’s original social enterprise dedicated to supporting people in recovery.

The National Insight Awards, organised by Expert Citizens CIC, recognise individuals, teams and organisations making a difference through lived experience, with the awards themselves judged and delivered by people with lived experience.

Langan’s has been nominated in the ‘Welcoming’ category, which celebrates organisations that create warm, safe and non-judgmental environments tailored to individual needs and embody unconditional positive regard.

Since opening its doors 15 years ago, Langan’s has provided a supportive pathway for individuals overcoming substance use and social isolation.

Today, the venue actively employs 10 staff in paid roles and supports 11 volunteers, offering practical hospitality training, paid employment opportunities, and a safe space to rebuild confidence and independence.

Beyond its core recovery focus, Langan’s also acts as a vital community hub by supporting a wide range of local groups—including knit and natter sessions, Armed Forces veterans, and craft clubs, as it continues to expand its wider community offer.

Dominik Stingas-Paczko, chief officer at The O’Connor Gateway Trust, said: "When Langan’s opened 15 years ago, we were setting a new standard for how social enterprise can transform lives through meaningful work and community connection.

“Being nominated for a National Insight Award, especially one judged by people with lived experience, is an incredible recognition of our team, our volunteers, and the welcoming environment we strive to create for the whole community every single day."

The nomination aligns with the re-release of Langan's Lived Experience short video which highlights the personal stories and journeys of the individuals who work and volunteer at the tea rooms.

Local statutory agencies, community partners, and members of the public are invited to support Langan’s by visiting the tea rooms, sharing the video, and continuing to champion lived-experience recovery models across Staffordshire and the Midlands.
