Stone King 's Birmingham office has been strengthened with the addition of experienced practitioner Josephine Boyle to its Temple Street team.

Josephine (pictured), who has worked for Stone King for eight years, has moved to the Birmingham office although she will continue to practice nationwide.

Josephine is an associate and works in the Private Client Property Team.

“Stamp duty breaks have certainly made for a very busy time and I am looking forward to helping people complete on their dream homes, ” she said.

“Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding areas have so much to offer and I am looking forward to working with people on their property journeys. ”

Jo has been a conveyancer for nearly 40 years and looked back at some of the changes she has seen in her career.

“The profession certainly has changed over the 38 years I have been in law - the main change of course being in technology, ” she said.

“I can remember my secretary being the first in Bristol to have a 'golf ball ' typewriter which was classed as the best going back 30 years. It had a tiny strip screen which displayed about four to five words at a time and had a memory which only held half an A4 page - but at the time we thought it was amazing.

“Fax machines were huge when they were first introduced with a thin and shiny type of paper.

“We had to be careful to make sure no faxes were missed as the paper would curl up and roll under the fax table.

“Nowadays, of course, e-faxes are sent from your computer. There were of course no emails back then so letters by post, which would take days to arrive, were the only method of communicating with clients, aside from phone calls.

“I recall that when attending court, I had to queue up at a public local phone box to ring my boss with the verdict of the case - often waiting ages just to use the public phone. There were no mobiles in those days.

“Thanks to the improvement of technology, our jobs have become much easier and quicker, but the pace of life has also become equally as quick. ”
