Prominent city law firm Gowling WLG is hosting a “fireside chat-style” discussion about venture capital funding as part of Birmingham Tech Week.

The keynote speakers at the October 25 event will be Gowling WLG’s Head of UK Tech Venture Capital Rebecca Burford (pictured) and the managing partner of venture capital fund Cornerstone VC Rodney Appiah.

Rebecca Burford said: "Venture capital funding can be transformative for businesses looking to take the next step in their growth journey. This Birmingham Tech Week session with Rodney Appiah from tech-focused venture capital fund Cornerstone VC will discuss the kind of businesses that should consider this type of funding, how to prepare for success and top tips to consider from an early-stage investor."

Ideal for early-stage businesses who have already completed a seed funding round and are looking to take the next step in their growth journey (£1 million+ fundraising), the session will cover a variety of topics including

  • Fundraising fundamentals: what is venture capital, why is it important and what kind of businesses should consider it?
  • What exactly do investors look for in a business?
  • How to prepare for venture capital - what to consider and what to avoid
  • Tips for success

The event, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm on Friday October 25 at iCentrum, Innovation Birmingham, Holt Street, is free to attend but places are limited. To express interest, would-be attendees are urged to complete details via the link ahead of confirmation of a place.
