Lichfield Cathedral is celebrating ten years of its Christmas light shows with a new production, Follow the Star, running from 15 to 21 December.

Visitors will follow a trail through The Close, with projections on the Bishop’s Palace and the Cathedral’s West Front, before entering the building, where the ceiling of the Nave will be lit up.

Created by animation team Illuminos, the show combines light, music and storytelling to tell the Nativity story.

The light shows have grown into a fixture of the festive calendar, drawing thousands of visitors from across the region.

They raise funds for the upkeep and work of the Cathedral.

To mark the anniversary, the Cathedral is recognising those behind the event, including more than 40 volunteers each evening, staff, local choirs and creative partners.

The Rt Revd Jan McFarlane, Dean of Lichfield, said: “This is a special year for us as we celebrate ten years of Christmas light shows at Lichfield Cathedral. I want to personally thank everyone who helps with such dedication: our volunteers, staff, creative partners, choirs and all those who join us and make the event part of their Christmas tradition.

“Lichfield Cathedral is your Cathedral, and this year’s Christmas Light Show is an invitation to discover the Christmas story in a new light.”

Alongside the show, visitors can enjoy music from local choirs, the Christmas Tree Festival, the Cathedral Crib, refreshments from SALT Café and the Cathedral Gift Shop.

The 2026 show is sponsored by Richard Winterton Auctioneers. Tickets are on sale now.
