LISTEN: Experiencing mindfulness through music

The Future Faces Chamber of Commerce has released their latest podcast episode in aid of Mental Health Awareness Month, encouraging people to use music as a tool for practicing mindfulness.

Future Faces: The Young Professionals Podcast is a monthly feature showcasing the best of the region 's young talent, discussing a range of topics that are important to this generation of future leaders and providing members with the tools to advance their careers.

This month's episode features Will Crawford, founder of quietnote- a company helping people better experience mindfulness through music. The episode is hosted by Future Faces vice president Sabah Hussain.

With the topic of mental health in mind, Will catches up with Future Faces president Sabah Hussain to discuss how music can be used as an effective tool to manage stress and become better attuned with our own mental health.

Despite living in an increasingly connected world, statistics show that people are feeling more isolated than ever and often struggle to balance every day pressures with taking care of their mental health. In light of this, Will shares how music and meditation have enabled him and his business to better people's personal approach to wellbeing.

Will said: "Music is around us all the time- in the background , when we're doing he dishes, when we're having dinner, and it's always there.

"But actually finding the time to just listen to music is really rare for so many people. I actually encourage people to think of the last time they just listened- no multitasking, nothing else, just listening to music.

"Something I hear a lot is that people don't have the time, and it might seem like that because life can be so full on all of the time. But the time is there if you can go out of your way to stick 5 minutes in your diary and when I do get people to sit down and do it they always say that they found it incredibly rewarding."

Within the episode, Will also introduces a 5 minute meditation track to encourage listeners to take time for themselves and understand the positive impact of music first hand. The mindfulness meditation session begins at 15min 30sec.
